it’s fall yinz

After spending 20 years in the south, I just want to say “It’s FALL ya’ll!” I am a Pittsburgh girl so I feel the need to have a happy compromise. This just doesn’t roll of the tongue easily - or sound as cute.

There is so much to do and before you know it, the season will change again. We can discuss more about that later. My goal is to be in the right here and right now. It is amazing what peace the nature can hold. The scenery of the beautiful colors reminds us of the beauty of life and all that it has to offer.

Here are some ideas of what you can do this weekend to be in the right here and right now.

  1. Explore the art in nature. Find a park or a trail to stroll through enjoy all of the foilage. Even if it is the beginning of the season in your area, seeing the start of the change is magical.

  2. Pumpkin Patch! Need I say more? Do not forget to pick up pie pumpkins to create homemade pumpkin puree. I have an old video for this process here

  3. Set up a hot drink cart and stock up with ingredients for items like spiced latte, hot chocolate and warm apple cider. Get ready for the winter months by planning on how to stay warm.

  4. Bonefire Bliss! Roast marshmallows, make s’mores and enjoy the crackle of the fire in the crisp night air. Invite your friends over for spooky story telling. Remember to use safety when starting and maintaining fires. :)

  5. Find a Harvest Festival. Do a web search in your area for local festivities where you can enjoy some leisure time, farmers markets and games. Some states have incredible corn mazes to escape. This is a great way to spend the afternoon.

  6. Halloween Scare Houses start now. Don’t wait until the last week in October, you can start your spooky season early and, possibly, avoid the crowds.

  7. Interested in staying home? Bring the fall feels inside by baking an apple pie, making a squash based soup, hearty stew and having pumpkin muffins for breakfast.

  8. Create a Halloween tree! You can put together a great creation with any of the following:

    1. String of halloween lights - you know you have those old pumpkin ones lying around

    2. Garland and/or bulbs for color such as orange, black, silver, gold, white or purple.

    3. Small pieces of decor or halloween picks at your local craft store

    4. Top your tree with a witch’s hat or big bow

The season starts now! For some, it started a few weeks ago. Get outside, enjoy the season and breath the fresh air. Live life now. If you take any fall pictures tag us on social media #falltheorderedhome
