Is August your favorite month?
If not, let me try to change your mind.
August is one of the most traveled times of the year. Quite a few families plan vacations just before the start of school, and nothing is better than exiting summer with a bang. Unless, you can continue some of the vacation vibes throughout September and the next several months.
How do you do that? I am glad you asked. The anticipation of where to go or what to do creates great excitement and vacations bring many lasting memories . There are several things that you can do to stay in a vacation state of mind.
Plan breaks during the year to relax and recharge. Decide on a weekend away at a Bed & Breakfast. Stay at a hotel with a pool as a great escape for a few days without the responsibilities of home.
If you cannot pull away from all responsibilities (like taking the dog out), then plan an adventure close to home: go to an art museum, a local park, historical site, attend a small concert or event that you would appreciate.
Enjoy the company of others. Plan a small get together on the back porch for happy hour or plan a dinner party. If these types of events bring on stress, ask someone to assist you with planning, or cater if possible.
There are other things that you can do at home to continue your relaxed vacation feeling.
Spend some time in nature and enjoy the sounds around you. Lay in a hammock - this is a great investment! Put down the phone and take a break from social media.
Create a new atmosphere at home. Reorganize a room to create a clean look. Add to the vibe by utilizing candles or aromatherapy.
Revisit your goals and create new habits. Just keep them simple, now is not the time to be overwhelmed. Who doesn’t like a fresh start, right?
Learn one new task to utilize in your everyday life at home. If there is something that you absolutely LOVED while on vacation, attempt to relive that glow of happiness. This integrates vacation and home life bringing meaning to your trip. I remember a trip that our family took to the beach several years ago. There was a brand of coffee provided in the rental we had never tried, and we fell in love with it. Upon returning home we purchased it and started using it in our daily routine. This was a small luxury that we introduced that was also a great reminder of our trip.
I hope that you can utilize some of these ideas to help keep your spirit high. I will continue to touch on these subjects in the upcoming weeks. Stay tuned.
